Goodwin and Katy Perry

Andrew Goodwin's key conventions follow 5 different key conventions that the audience will have to look at:
  • Through beats, this means seeing the sound
  • Narrative and performance
  • The 'Star Image'
  • Relationship between the visuals and the music
  • Technical aspects of the video

Andrew Goodwin says pop videos are often used tor reinforce an Artists brand Image. This blog will explore how far this is true with regard to Katy Perry. It will also examine how her pop videos reflect her private life and seek to reconnect her with her target audience. Katy Perry is a modern day pop sensation, idolised by many and has endured sucsess over the years.

Firework

Firework is one of Katy Perry music videos involving a high production value and story line, creating a more movie 'like' experience for the viewer. This video targets mainly teenage girls of the ages 12-15 and provides a positive, feel good message. To reach this audience, Katy creates the image of a older sister. Katy wears a white dress that covers most of her body. The white colour creates the idea of purity and as less skin is shown, sex appeal is reduced further appealing to her target audience of young teenage girls and preventing any alienation of fans that could occur otherwise.

Last Friday Night

Last Friday Night is another one of Katy's high production videos that tells a story and is portayed more film like than other videos.
