Whilst choosing a song it is evident that the copy right laws impose problems, therefore it will be easier if I choose a song that has been created by an artist that is unsigned. This will allow me to use the song for my music once I get permission from the artists.
How I found the artist...
I heard off the artist from a friend who suggest a song 'be a king' that was on youtube (word of mouth) and then went on to watch more of his videos as I enjoyed the suggested song. When choosing a song I new that the artist released free music so I proceeded to look at his channel for a song.
Once I found a song I sent a message asking for permission to use the song on both twitter and youtube as I considered these the easiest options to contact the artist.

Purpose of music promo video
Music videos are created for a purpose. The main purpose of a music video is for promotion for the artist and there brand (including record labels and other originations associated with them). The exposure they can receive may provide them with an extension of income.
Music Videos can:
Music Videos can:
- provide advertisement for the artist (as previously stated; persuades audiences to buy song or album)
- can illustrate the song (highlighting deeper meanings and/or providing consumers with multiple ways to view the song)
- appeal to the a visual audience
- express emotions
- tell a story
- create/market an image/brand (allows consumers to 'buy into' the brand by purchasing goods associated with the artist e.g. dolls, apparel etc, increasing potential revenue for the artist)

Non-copy right music
Copyright is "the exclusive and assignable legal right, given to the originator for a fixed number of years, to print, publish, perform, film, or record literary, artistic, or musical material" (http://oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/copyright)
Copyright is important as it protects someones creation and prevents people from exploiting their created product for their own personal gain. It also prevents impostors from taking the product as their own and allows the creator to have all rights over their created product.
This however raises problems and obstacles for me as I require a song in order to create a music video for it. Any songs made by signed artists will therefore be copyrighted meaning I will be unable to use their songs due to current laws. Therefore I will have to rely on unsigned artists. As they are unsigned artists they are not surrounded in many copyright issues and this can help them receive more exposure.

My favourite music videos
Eminem - Without Me
My favourite music video so far is Eminem's Without me. I enjoy the fact that the video is very comedic and entertaining making it more enjoyable. This can be seen as a typical Eminem video as it conveys humour and his videos and songs are known to be either humorous or serious. The video can be seen as 'daring' as he is again contra-versal and he can be seen as bold as he is know typically to convey a statement through his songs and videos, creating awareness for him due to word of mouth and through the media which he uses to his advantage. Exploiting this he increases popularity of his brand allowing him to gain more exposure and revenue. Eminem uses vulgar actions throughout the video and creates a persona of Elvis (pulling out a giant sandwich from the toilet) and an Islamist extremist in a cave (dancing) and ridicules them throughout. This further creates controversy gaining the song more publicity. The song follows the music video throughout. The lyrics match the situation and occurrences in the video. For example at the start Eminem is at the hospital, having an operation, alike the lyrics. The video also tells a story relevant to the song. Eminem creates a persona 'rap boy' and saves children from explicit songs with his Dr Dre as his partner, together taking the form of what looks like the characters batman and robin. This links to the song as he is saying that the world needs him and the way super heroes are needed by the world in films. He is also protecting children form explicit music in the video when in 'real world' the majority of his music is explicit and vast amounts of a younger audience listen to him, leading to some parents disliking the artists as they feel he portrays negative images to their children. This is very controversial which also links to his lyrics as he says;
"Now this looks like a job for me so everybody just follow me
'Cause we need a little controversy,
'Cause it feels so empty without me"
